On World Nature Conservation Day, the logistics sector finds itself at the forefront of the global mission to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change. As a significant contributor to Scope3 emissions, particularly in transportation and distribution networks, the industry recognizes the pressing need to address its environmental impact. To tackle these challenges, the logistics sector is proactively adopting data-driven solutions and embracing technological advancements.


Logistics contributes significantly to the Scope3 emissions in the form of “foot print to serve” in the transportation and distribution networks. One of the major hurdles in India being low to no control on the transportation value chains and hence an inherent inability to take positive actions for effective abatement of emissions. The supply chain emissions are 11.4 times that of emissions from operations and as per Govt reports,  ~3% of the commercial vehicle population contributes to ~34% of the CO2 emissions and ~54% of the PM emissions. As our freight movement pipeline is powered by diesel as a major power source, coupled with the average older fleet along with sub-optimal infrastructure translates into higher associated emission foot-print for every goods we consume today.
