Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare virtually inaugurated the permanent campus of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Guwahati, Assam and laid the foundation stone of NIPER Hyderabad and NIPER Rae Bareli. He dedicated to the nation five new facilities at the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS) in Aizawl, Mizoram and laid the foundation stone of more than 80 units of health infrastructure in 7 north-eastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur.
He said, “NIPER is on the path to create a self-reliant India in the pharmaceutical and medtech sector by becoming a bridge connecting knowledge, education, research and business. He further added, “NIPER has become a big name in the field of technical and higher education across the country with around 8,000 students graduating and becoming successful in the professional field. More than 380 patents are also registered in the name of NIPER.”
“NIPER will integrate our research, training and manpower generation, which will enable us to provide a sustainable space for our pharma industry globally,” he said. NIPER's vision to significantly contribute to the promotion of overall human health and well-being in the field of medicine will spread its impact not only at the national but also at the global level. NIPER Guwahati, which is spread over approximately 60 acres of land in several buildings including about 10 Centers of Excellence, with a total project cost of Rs. Rs 157 crore is a testament to the government's unwavering dedication towards a progressive North East and a unified nation.
He said that there is lack of education, health, connectivity and employment in the North-East. The Central Government has continuously worked on all these aspects. He said, “If we talk about health services, by developing institutions like RIMS, RIPNS, NEIGRIHMS and AIIMS Guwahati, opportunities for education, health and employment are being created here, for which earlier people used to migrate from these areas. “
The allocation of funds totaled Rs. Rs 404.22 crore has been spent in dedicating 2 units, laying foundation stones of 49 units and inaugurating 32 units of health infrastructure across the North Eastern region. Additionally, a huge sum of Rs. Rs 150 crore has been earmarked to dedicate to the nation the super specialty block in Assam Medical College.
Additionally, RIPANS in Aizawl has seen an investment of Rs. 127.34 crore for dedication of five essential buildings including Hospital Block, General Hostel Block, Guest House, Resident Doctor Quarters and Staff/Nurses Quarters. These efforts have resulted in an impressive total amount of over Rs. Rs 725 crore was allocated for 80 units, the minister said, marking a significant leap in enhancing the health care infrastructure in the region.
Bhagwant Khuba, Minister of State, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and New and Renewable Energy, said that NIPER has contributed to creating a skilled workforce with over 8,000 students since its inception and this pool of skilled manpower acts as a driving force behind it. He also stressed on the efforts being made to strengthen India's dominance in the pharmaceutical sector and reduce dependence on imported APIs and medical devices. He informed that three bulk drug parks are being built in the country and talked about starting the PLI scheme of the Central Government in the pharma and medtech sector.
