India’s food grain production is increased in the last 5 years


According to the Government of India, total food grain production is estimated at 3288.52 LMT, which is 211.00 LMT more than the average food grain production of the last 5 years. According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, total rice production in 2022-23 is estimated to be 1367.00 LMT as compared to 1357.55 LMT, showing an increase of 9.45 LMT. Wheat production is estimated at 1129.25 LMT, which is 23.71 LMT more than the wheat production of last year.

This was the third advance estimate of major agricultural crops for the year 2023-24. Total food grain production is 211.00 LMT higher than the average food grain production of 3077.52 LMT of last 5 years (2018-19 to 2022-23). The production of Shree Anna is estimated at 174.08 lakh metric tons, showing a marginal increase of 0.87 lakh metric tons over the production of 2022-23.

Further, the production of nutri/coarse cereals is estimated at 547.34 lakh metric tons, which is 46.24 lakh metric tons higher than the average nutri/coarse cereals production, as per the data. The production of pigeon pea is estimated at 33.85 lakh metric tons, which is marginally higher by 0.73 lakh metric tons than last year's production of 33.12 lakh metric tons. The production of lentil is estimated at 17.54 lakh metric tons, which is 1.95 lakh metric tons higher than last year's production of 15.59 lakh metric tons.

According to the ministry's data, soybean production is estimated to be 130.54 lakh metric tons and rapeseed and mustard production is estimated to be 131.61 lakh metric tons, which is 5.18 lakh metric tons more than last year's production. Cotton production is estimated to be 325.22 lakh bales (each of 170 kg) and sugarcane production is estimated to be 4425.22 lakh metric tons. Lentil production is estimated to be 17.54 lakh metric tons, which is 1.95 lakh metric tons more than last year's production of 15.59 lakh metric tons.
