Simpler Today AI Secures INR 20 Lakh Funding from IIT Mandi iHub and HCI Foundation under Startup India Scheme

Simpler Today AI, India’s first AI-first consumer law firm designed to make justice faster and more accessible for citizens, secured INR 20 lakh in funding from IIT Mandi iHub and HCI Foundation under the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme. The funding will support product enhancement, deeper research, and expansion of Simpler Today AI’s indigenous legal intelligence capabilities for India’s justice ecosystem.

Simpler Today AI makes high-quality legal services accessible to citizens through AI-driven efficiency and affordability. From filing to resolution, Simpler Today owns the entire legal journey—so customers don’t have to navigate the system alone. The platform enables citizens to understand their legal rights, assess the seriousness of incidents, draft structured and action-ready complaints, and receive guidance on next procedural steps, all through a conversational, multilingual AI interface.

Currently supporting 30+ laws and acts, 100+ legal use cases, and state-specific formats, Simpler Today AI has demonstrated early on-ground traction. Its technology has been deployed across 29 police stations in Raigad, Maharashtra, directly serving over 35 lakh citizens, and has facilitated thousands of legal interactions, resulting in hundreds of structured complaints drafted with significantly higher actionability.

Built as an indigenous AI system, the platform is designed to work with law enforcement and legal institutions, improving the quality of information, reducing procedural ambiguity, and optimizing resource utilization within the justice system.
Commenting on the funding, Amit Shukla, Co-Founder of Simpler Today AI, said:

“This support from IIT Mandi iHub and HCI Foundation under the Startup India Scheme is a strong validation of our belief that legal access is foundational to national security and inclusive growth. India needs indigenous AI systems that deeply understand its laws, languages, and institutions. This funding will help us strengthen our legal intelligence stack and accelerate our mission of making justice accessible, affordable, and actionable for every citizen.”

Amit Shukla previously founded EasyGov, an AI-driven governance platform that was acquired by Reliance Jio, where the technology was deployed at national scale for social protection delivery.

India’s legal system currently faces a massive structural challenge. Over 50 million cases remain pending across courts, with some estimates suggesting it could take hundreds of years to clear the backlog at current disposal rates. Delays in legal awareness, complaint filing, and procedural clarity often prevent issues from being addressed at the earliest stage, compounding pressure on courts and law enforcement agencies.

A spokesperson from IIT Mandi iHub and HCI Foundation

“Simpler Today AI represents the kind of deep-tech, public-impact innovation that India needs. Their focus on legal access, indigenous AI, and real institutional adoption aligns strongly with the objectives of the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme. We believe the team has the potential to create meaningful, scalable impact within India’s justice and governance ecosystem.”

AI-driven platforms like Simpler Today AI can significantly reduce friction at the system’s entry points – improving outcomes for citizens while easing systemic load. As India accelerates its adoption of Digital Public Infrastructure, indigenous legal AI solutions are poised to play a transformative role in the future of justice delivery.
