A commemorative event was held in New Delhi on Thursday to mark the 125th birth anniversary of freedom fighter, Constituent Assembly member, former Union Minister, and former Governor of Madhya Pradesh, the late Satyanarayan Sinha.
The event was organised by his grandson and senior journalist Rakesh Kumar Singh, bringing together family members, well-wishers, and eminent personalities to remember Sinha's life, his struggle for India's freedom, and his invaluable contribution to nation-building.
Attendees paid floral tributes to the portrait of the late Satyanarayan Sinha and honoured his lifelong commitment to public service and democratic values. The gathering also revisited memories of earlier commemorative programmes held in his honour.
Born in July 1900 into a zamindar family in Bihar, Satyanarayan Sinha received his early education at Muzaffarpur District School before earning a law degree from Patna University. He joined India's freedom movement at an early age and became a member of the Indian National Congress in 1924. He was elected to the Bihar Legislative Council in 1926 and later to the Central Legislative Assembly in 1934, where he went on to hold several important public responsibilities.
Sinha also played a significant role in framing independent India's Constitution as a member of the Constituent Assembly representing Bihar. He later served as a member of the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Lok Sabha. During his parliamentary career, he held key portfolios in the Union Government, including Minister of Information and Broadcasting (1963–1964) and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Communications (1964–1967). From 1971 to 1977, he served as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Kumar Singh said, “My grandfather, the late Satyanarayan Sinha, dedicated his entire life to the service of the nation, democracy, and the people. Paying tribute to him on his 125th birth anniversary is a moment of pride and deep emotion for our family. We want the younger generation to learn about his life, ideals, and contribution to nation-building, and draw inspiration from his remarkable legacy.”
